GearTracker by Reinert: when a PPE distributor becomes a performance partner

A harness, a helmet or a gas detector sells in a matter of minutes. Its compliance is proven over several years: who inspected it, on what date, and what condition it is in today. Reinert , a century-old Luxembourg distributor, decided to support its customers across that whole span.

In July 2026, in front of more than 350 customers gathered at the GRIDX, the company unveiled GearTracker by Reinert: its own protective equipment tracking solution, powered by GearTracker. A rollout sized at 20,000 items to track.

A distributor’s job that is changing

Founded in 1925 and based in Leudelange, Reinert has spent a century distributing automotive parts, industrial tooling and safety equipment — PPE and fire safety included. A flow business: the right product, at the right time, at the right price.

That model is now hitting its limit, and Laurent de Volder, who made the announcement on stage, says so plainly:

For a long time, our role was to supply the right products, at the right time and at the right price. Today, that is no longer enough. Our customers expect partners who can save them time, simplify their day-to-day work and bring them concrete solutions.

Laurent de Volder, Reinert

The field bears this out. A safety manager buys 300 pieces of PPE, delivery goes smoothly, and the matter looks settled. Eighteen months later the annual inspection comes around: each item’s life record has to be produced, scattered across binders nobody keeps current. That part of the job has historically sat outside the distributor’s remit.

The GRIDX evening: 350 customers, one announcement

Beyond the new products shown that evening, the message came down to a single sentence:

Reinert is no longer just a distributor. We want to be a genuine performance partner.

Laurent de Volder, Reinert

Among the solutions unveiled, GearTracker by Reinert is the one that best embodies that shift: the distributor now delivers the equipment together with the tool that tracks its life.

GearTracker by Reinert, in practice

GearTracker by Reinert is a Reinert-branded version of our PPE management software , available to the distributor’s customers at erp.reinert.lu .

Reinert, Luxembourg PPE distributor

The guiding idea fits in one sentence: the customer finds their equipment in a tool already connected to their usual supplier, working from the moment the account opens.

  • Centralised inventory — every item has its own record: reference, purchase date, assignment, full history.
  • Scheduled periodic inspections — regulatory deadlines are calculated, and reminders go out on their own.
  • Inspections recorded in the field — checks are entered from a smartphone, right in front of the equipment.
  • Physical identification NFC tags or QR codes to pull up the right record instantly.
  • Exportable register — enough to answer an audit without spending three days reconstructing a history.

Why 20,000 items change the nature of the problem

A spreadsheet still holds up on a single site. At 20,000 items spread across dozens of customers, it demands daily upkeep that nobody has time to provide.

That is the starting volume chosen for GearTracker by Reinert, and it sets the ambition: a rollout across the distributor’s entire customer portfolio.

At that scale, the tool continuously surfaces:

  • items whose inspection is overdue, before the inspector points it out;
  • items past their service life yet still in circulation;
  • items that have simply gone missing — the most underestimated loss in any PPE fleet.

What this partnership says about the market

A PPE distributor that brings a tracking system on board moves where it creates value: from the transaction to the equipment’s service life.

For the customer, the benefit is direct: a single point of contact covers purchasing, traceability and regulatory compliance . For the distributor, the relationship carries on well past the invoice.

This is the model we offer PPE distributors and manufacturers who want to equip their customers without building software from scratch.
